All consults are with caring and experienced Lactation Consultants. Most appointments take place in our Phoenix/Scottsdale office, conveniently located off of the 101 and Scottsdale Road and follow-ups and some consults also in our East/Mesa office, just off the 202 loop north. 

INITIAL LACTATION CONSULT  |   approximately 90-120 minutes   |  in office only

The Initial Lactation Consult is comprehensive session to thoroughly examine your feeding concerns.
This visit includes:

  • thorough review of health history, birth, and breastfeeding experiences; physical assessment of breasts; discussion of concern(s)
  • review of baby’s growth and feeding patterns; evaluation of latch and effective transfer; assessment of oral and structural anatomy
  • observation of a feeding and suggestions for positioning
  • structural assessment and referral for necessary bodywork
  • education about infant cues and typical baby behaviors
  • links to supporting materials
  • personalized, detailed written care plan with clear objectives for dyad’s goals
  • insurance documents to submit for reimbursement by provider
  • follow-up correspondence

*Additional $50 will be added for twins.

FOLLOW-UP LACTATION CONSULT  |  approximately 30-60 minutes  | in office

Sometimes persistent issues may require more than an Initial Consult to resolve, or secondary challenges prompt a Follow-up Consult.
This visit occurs within 6 weeks of the Initial Lactation Consult and may include:

  • review of prior concern(s)/progress update
  • explore new concerns
  • handouts and/or links to supporting materials
  • re-evaluate and update the care plan
  • insurance documents to submit for reimbursement by provider
  • follow-up correspondence.

BOTTLE CONSULTATION WITH TONGUE TIE ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT  | approximately 60 minutes  | in office

CHILD AND ADULT TONGUE TIE ASSESSMENT  | Â 60 minutes  | in office

The Tongue Tie Assessment is short, targeted consultation meant to provide meaningful assessment and care plan for feeding challenges.  Appointments are one-on-one with an Dr. Cara and geared towards families who are bottle feeding and no longer breastfeeding.

This visit includes:

  • detailed history
  • oral exam
  • follow-up correspondence.

PRIVATE PRENATAL CONSULT |  approximately 60 minutes   | in office

Families who prefer a customized session before baby arrives benefit from a Private Prenatal Consult.
This visit includes:

  • breastfeeding education with a focus on the newborn phase, including infant feeding cues
  • strategies for maximizing milk production and avoiding common “booby traps”
  • suggestions for effective latching and positioning
  • discussion of concerns and questions
  • local resource guide for ongoing community support
  • an individualized plan for optimizing early breastfeeding and meeting long-term goals.
